The most-asked questions from new Brand Atlas customers. The questions are seeded from pilot feedback and will be refined as the support load grows. Each answer leads with a one-sentence response and expands if the question rewards it.
The FAQ pages will be revised once 50 paying customers have onboarded. The current questions are the most common ones we have heard so far; the list is incomplete by design.

How do I sign up?

Brand Atlas is currently in invite-only pilot. To request an invitation, write to hello@madeby.wtf with a short description of your brand. When self-serve signup opens (later in 2026), you will be able to sign up directly at brandatlas.pro.

How long does it take to set up the first atlas?

About ten minutes for the Scout-tier first pass: name the atlas, populate Logo & Identity, invite one team member. See Quickstart. For a substantive first atlas with several standard sections populated, expect two to four working hours. Most brand owners spread this across the first week.

Do I need a designer to use Brand Atlas?

No. Brand Atlas does not produce design; it holds the brand record that comes out of design. If you already have an identity (a logo, colours, typography choices, voice rules), you can populate the atlas without a designer. If you do not have an identity yet, MadeBy_ can be engaged for the original work, or you can build it elsewhere and import the result into Brand Atlas. The portal accepts material from any source.

Can I use Brand Atlas without MadeBy_?

Yes. Brand Atlas is a self-contained product with its own subscription. MadeBy_ services (brand identity, brand maintenance, brand evolution) are optional. The portal works without us; many customers run their atlas with no studio involvement.

What is the difference between Scout, Keeper, and Guardian?

  • Scout is free. The eight standard sections, two team members, no Horizons creation, no AI.
  • Keeper is 79/moor79/mo or 799/yr. Five team members, up to five active Horizons, Update Requests, and Henry (BYOK).
  • Guardian is 199/moor199/mo or 1,999/yr. Unlimited team members, up to 25 active Horizons, Oswald (the editorial AI), and unlimited record history.
See Choosing a tier for the full comparison.

Can I start on Scout and upgrade later?

Yes. Scout is free with no time limit. When the team outgrows Scout (most commonly when Update Requests would solve a real problem), upgrading to Keeper takes effect immediately. The brand record is preserved.

What’s in the Welcome Overlay?

A short one-screen orientation: what Brand Atlas is, what you do here, and where to start. It takes under a minute to read. If you skip it, you can reopen it from Settings → Account → Show Welcome Overlay.

What should I populate first?

If you have an identity, the recommended order is:
  1. Logo & Identity. The section the team opens most often.
  2. Typography. The next-most-referenced.
  3. Colour System. With accessibility pairings pre-checked.
  4. Voice. Especially the banned vocabulary block.
The remaining four sections (Applications, Strategy, Photography, Social) can be added in the second week. Many atlases run for months with these four core sections.

Do team members get notifications?

By default, team members receive emails for Update Request responses, mentions, and welcome messages. They can configure the notifications they receive in their own Settings → Notifications. See Notifications.

What happens if I cancel?

Cancellation closes the subscription at the end of the current billing period. Thirty days of grace follow during which you can export the brand record. After that, the record is deleted. See Cancelling and exporting. If you want to step away temporarily without losing the brand record, use Pause rather than Cancel.

Can I have more than one atlas?

Yes. A single account can be the brand owner of any number of atlases. Each has its own subscription, brand record, team, and tier. See Managing multiple atlases.

Where is my data stored?

Primary storage is in the European Union. For Guardian customers with specific data-residency requirements, alternative regions are available on request. See the Privacy Policy and the GDPR statement.

Is Brand Atlas accessible?

Brand Atlas targets WCAG 2.2 Level AA conformance across both the portal and the docs. See the Accessibility Statement for current conformance status, known limitations, and the channel for reporting accessibility issues.
