What we do
MadeBy_ has two sides. The first is a traditional brand-identity practice: we design wordmarks, build typographic systems, choose colour, write voice, direct photography, set up the visual rules that hold a brand together. That work is project-based and engagement-based. The second side is Brand Atlas. The portal is the product we wished existed every time we finished a brand and handed it over. PDFs went into folders. Brands drifted. The team that hired us could not keep the work alive. We built Brand Atlas to fix the second half of the brand lifecycle, the half no studio had a good answer for. The two sides feed each other. The identity work makes the product better because we test it on real brands. The product makes the identity work durable because the brands we deliver do not drift.Where we work from
Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The studio is registered in the UAE. Our clients are global; our team and our infrastructure are mostly Dubai-based with remote collaborators across time zones. We work in English and Arabic, with project-specific support for other languages through partner translators. What we believe about brand
A short statement of the position behind the work:- A brand is a working system, not a campaign. Campaigns end. Brands continue. The work that matters is the work that holds a brand together over years.
- Delivery day is the beginning, not the end. A brand identity is built once and stewarded forever. The studio’s job is the build; the brand owner’s job is the stewardship. Both need infrastructure.
- The PDF is the enemy. Static documentation guarantees drift. A working brand needs a living surface.
- Authorship sits with the brand owner. Studios build; brand owners author. The atlas is the brand owner’s, not the studio’s.
- Stewardship is not policing. The point is to give the team the right material at the right moment, not to catch them out.
How we work with clients
Most engagements run in one of four shapes:- Brand identity build. A full identity project, ending with Brand Atlas populated and the team trained. The studio handover transfers authorship from MadeBy_ to the brand owner.
- Brand maintenance retainer. Ongoing support for an existing brand. The studio handles routine atlas work alongside the brand owner. Cadence varies; common shapes are monthly check-in or quarterly intensive.
- Brand evolution project. A larger refresh or rebuild of an existing brand, where the identity changes meaningfully. The retainer cadence does not fit; the work runs as a defined project.
- Atlas-only setup. A brand that already has its identity but wants help populating Brand Atlas. A short engagement that ends with the eight standard sections populated and the team onboarded.
The product without the studio
Brand Atlas works without MadeBy_. The product is a separate service with its own subscription, and the brand owner is the author of their atlas regardless of whether they have engaged the studio. This is the most important thing to know if you are evaluating whether to use Brand Atlas independently: you do not need to hire MadeBy_, and we will not pretend otherwise. That said, the work we do at MadeBy_ informs the work in the product. The seven principles in our brief, the owned vocabulary, the way the eight standard sections are organised, the stewardship cadence we recommend, all of it comes from the practice. The product is the practice, encoded.Related pages
