Plans: Scout, Keeper and Guardian. A page in your Atlas is made of blocks. Most are words, but brand blocks show the things a designer or a printer needs: swatches with their codes, a typeface with its weights, your logo on light and dark, the space it needs around it. You add them from the insert panel, fill them in where they sit, and publish.

Add a brand block

  1. Open the page, then click More actions (the three dots) and choose Edit. If the page has an unpublished draft, the menu says Continue editing instead.
  2. Click Add new in the bar at the top, or the + beside any block. The Insert panel opens on the left.
  3. Click the Brand content tab, or Layout & assets. Hover a block to see a preview and what it is for, or type in Search blocks….
  4. Click the block you want. It goes in below the block you were on. The panel stays open, so you can add several in a row. Close it with the cross or Esc.
You can also type / on an empty line to pick a block by name.

The blocks

Brand content: Colour palette, Brand font, Cover, Pull quote, Spectrum, Section hero, Callout, Value grid, Statement group, Statement, Section nav, Contacts, Do / Don’t, Spec table, Voice trait and Download. Layout & assets: Logo showcase, Image grid, Gallery, Clear space, Minimum size, Spacing scale, Grid diagram and Assets link. The ones most brands start with:
  • Colour palette. Click Add colour for each swatch, give it a Colour name and type its hex code. RGB is worked out for you, and CMYK is filled in until you type your own. Add the Pantone (PMS) code yourself. Tag each colour Primary, Secondary, Accent or Neutral to group them.
  • Brand font. Type the Typeface name, or search Google Fonts, then add the foundry, why you chose it, how to use it and the licence.
  • Logo showcase. Your logo variants, each on the background it belongs on, with a note.
  • Clear space and Minimum size. The room your logo needs around it, drawn as a diagram, and the smallest it may appear in print and on screen.
  • Do / Don’t. Side-by-side examples of right and wrong use, each with a picture and a line of explanation.
  • Spectrum. Scales between two opposites, such as playful and serious, with your brand marked on each.

Edit, remove and publish

  1. Type straight into a block to change its words. Settings such as a link sit in labelled fields.
  2. To remove a block, click Delete block beside it and confirm with Delete. You can undo this until you publish.
  3. Click Publish to make your changes live. Until then they sit in a private draft, and nobody reading your Atlas sees them. More on drafts in Editing and publishing.

Good to know

  • Colours and Fonts feed other tools. The swatches and fonts you add here are what the Playground and the developer tokens read, so keep them up to date.
  • Block limits apply to Horizons only. Your eight sections can hold as many blocks as you like. Each Horizon includes a number of free blocks set by your plan, and block packs add more. See Plans, trial and billing.
  • A Type scale block is set from the Playground’s Type Scale Studio, so it shows a lock in the editor and is not in the insert panel.
