# Oswald

> The AI that works on your Atlas with you: ask about your brand, point him at a page or file, and let him write changes when you say yes.

export const Screenshot = ({name, alt}) => {
  const SHOW_SCREENSHOTS = true;
  if (!SHOW_SCREENSHOTS) return null;
  return <Frame>
      <img className="block dark:hidden" src={`/images/${name}-light.png`} alt={alt} />
      <img className="hidden dark:block" src={`/images/${name}-dark.png`} alt={alt} />
    </Frame>;
};

**Plans:** Keeper and Guardian.

<Note>
  **Coming soon.** Oswald is still being tested and is not open to client accounts yet. Until he is, **Oswald** in the sidebar shows a padlock. This guide shows how he works, so you are ready when he opens.
</Note>

Oswald is the AI that knows your brand and can work on it. Ask him what your brand says about something, have him check a file against your colours and fonts, or ask him to rewrite a page. He never changes anything without the permission you give him, and every change can be put back.

[Henry](/guides/henry) is the other AI in Brand Atlas. Henry answers questions on your own key and never changes anything. Oswald can write.

## Start a conversation

1. Click **Oswald** at the bottom of the sidebar. You land on **What can Oswald help with today?**
2. Type in **Ask Oswald anything about your brand…**, or click one of the suggestions underneath, such as **What does the brand say about our tone of voice?**
3. Press Enter to send. The conversation opens, and it is saved in the list on the left.

To point him at something, type **@** and pick a file, a section or a Horizon from the list. You can also paste a link to a block, or attach an image or PDF of up to 4 MB with **Add attachment**.

## Ask from any page

You do not have to leave the page you are on. The **Oswald bar** sits at the bottom of every page and already knows where you are: on Brand Voice it reads **Ask about Brand Voice.**

1. Type your question in the bar and press Enter.
2. His answer opens above the bar, over the page. The conversation follows you if you move to another page.

## Let him make a change

When you ask for a change, Oswald shows you the words he would write in a card.

1. Click **Write this one** to put it on the page. The card then reads **Written to** and the page name, with **Have a look** and **Put it back**.
2. Click **Change something** to tell him what to adjust, or **Not this** to ask for a different direction.
3. If you are editing that page and have not published yet, the change goes into your draft instead.

## Choose how much he does alone

The button beside where you type shows the mode. Click it to choose, or press Shift and Tab in the Oswald bar to cycle through.

* **Always ask**: he shows you the exact words and waits for a yes. This is where everyone starts.
* **Ask once**: say yes once, and he gets on with the rest of that conversation.
* **Auto**: he makes the change and you look at it afterwards.

Inside a conversation, a mode you pick applies to that conversation only. Click **Make this my default** in the same menu to start every new conversation that way. Before a conversation has started, the menu offers **Always ask** and **Auto**, and your choice becomes your default.

You can also set your default in your account settings, under **Atlas AI**, then **Oswald**.

## Good to know

* **Your conversations are private to you.** Find old ones in the list on Oswald's page, or with **Search conversations**. **New conversation** starts fresh.
* **A new Horizon always asks first**, whatever the mode.
* **Pictures are yours.** Oswald writes words. He does not change images or make artwork.
* **Coming next:** Oswald will fill in your eight sections from your website and documents when you set up a brand.
* Oswald can make mistakes. Double-check anything important.

**Next:** [The Playground](/guides/playground): try your colours and fonts out.
